Next phase of convent buildings redevelopment goes ahead

We pleased to say that the next phase of our work to reorganise estate of Saint Joseph’s Convent of Mercy is now underway. This reorganisation will provide downsized accommodation for the remaining convent community members, as the estate is now too large for their needs.

The Sisters of Mercy acquired a number of buildings on Hillside Drive in Gravesend in the 1950s, including three large townhouses to form the core of the convent alongside a chapel and accommodation block. The townhouses were originally part of a mansion built in 1895.

This project involves the renovation of two of the townhouses to create a pair of six double bedrooms homes that are perfect for large families, multi-generation living or for those who need space to work from home.

The townhouses will be restored to their former glory and will become energy efficiency, exclusive homes with a fantastic history. Works include a reorganisation of the convent car park, the dividing of the existing garden, and the creation of a new driveway to access the gardens to the rear.

A new two-bedroom bungalow in place of the former scullery, laundry and garage completes this project.
