Chalets at Allhallows
Five 3-bedroom chalets, one 4-bedroom chalet, and 2 maisonettes, all with views across the Thames Estuary, sited on the northern edge of Allhallows village, in what remains of an attempt to establish a seaside resort on the Hoo Peninsula in the 1930s.
Set partially outside the village boundary, crossing Flood Zone 3, close to a number of national and international environmental designations including the South Thames Estuary and Marshes Site of Special Scientific Interest, the Medway Estuary and Marshes Special Protection Area, and the Thames Estuary and Marshes Ramsar site.
We demonstrated the proposal’s low flood risk and low impact on ecology and landscape views, and built the case for a rare opportunity for homegrown sustainable development ( as defined in NPPF2 ) in a village constrained by surrounding agricultural land, leisure and caravan parks, flood plans and marshland, but in need of dwellings for internal growth, for families who do not want to leave the village.
The forms of the chalets draw inspiration from small maritime sheds and beach huts found across Kent.
Planning permission was obtained in April 2019.
